It can be difficult to stay focused and work effectively when your home office is not disorganized, dusty, and dirty. As many home office owners know, it is difficult to keep your office clean while you are constantly working and accumulating more paper or material as your weeks go on. Before you know it, your desk and even your floor are covered in piles of paper or projects. Not only does stacks of paper make your office dirty, but dust particles will build up on your computer screens, keyboards, and desk surface. In this article, I will give you specific tips that I use in my personal home office to keep it clean and organized so that I can focus on my work.
Keep Cleaning Products on Your Desk
If you keep cleaning products in sight while you work, it will make you more likely to use them more often. Cleaning products such as cleaning wipes are great to keep near your computer or up on your desk because they do not take up a lot of space and they are easy to grab, wipe, and toss into the trash. This is a good method to use because it will keep your desk, keyboard, and monitor free of dust and dirt that builds up over time. Not only does this method keep your office clean, but it will also give you a short break from your work so that you can gather your thoughts and keep your mind fresh.
Have a Paper Filing System
In today’s day and age, it is smart to have a scanner and a cloud service to backup and store your business’s files so that you do not clutter your office with paper. Some businesses today, by nature, can not go completely paperless. One way to keep your papers organized is to have a filing cabinet. My personal filing cabinet in my home office is organized by my client’s last names and separated with dividers. I find it much easier to think clearly while there are not piles of paper sitting next to me. It is also much easier to find my clients information because I know exactly where everything is.
